Gardens are rarely celebrated in winter, and this one set out to change that. Created for ELLE Decor as a temporary installation in a Madrid hotel patio, it is composed entirely of winter planting. Álvaro Sampedro used it to make a simple case: that a garden in the cold months has its own beauty, and that brown is a colour like any other.
